G&T was first used as a medicine. Well, kind of. In colonial India, British soldiers were given tonics as a remedy against Malaria. Yet the bitter taste was rather not pleasant. At the same time the British had already fallen in love with gin. So just like young lovers, they experimented and probably banged it everywhere they could, to say it bluntly. Although this cocktails has become a worldwide hit during recent years, the roots of this cocktail date back to the Veneto region in the 1800s, when various Habsburg dynasty's merchants & diplomats who were visiting and working in Veneto, started to ask the local hosts to spray a drop of water into the wine, to make it a bit lighter.
